On Christmas Day In The Morning

Just before Christmas I was contacted by the lovely folk at Scarlett & Jo who sent me a stunning, beautifully festive swing dress that I knew I had to wear on Christmas Day as soon as I received it!

Dress - Scarlett & Jo, Tights - Evans, Boots - Evans.

Oh this dress, this dress! The short of it is - it is heaven! The material, the cut, the length, the added lace across the décolletage! Its just wonderful! The sizing is perfect and totally true to size - I got a 24 and it fits beautifully. The darting just under the bust means that although it is a swing dress, it has a great, super flattering shape that accentuates all the right places! The material feels fantastic against the skin, it's so soft, even the lace!

This dress is available in black too but I thought as it is the festive season - red would be a good choice and I feel I was definitely right! People that say redheads can't wear red, are very wrong in my opinions! I've never owned anything from Scarlett & Jo before but since receiving this dress, I know that I'm going to become a regular customer. The quality is beautiful and the fit is fantastic!

My beautiful man and I had a lovely Christmas Day with his family, enjoying lots of delicious food and drink, presents and fun!

Unfortunately later that evening hip pain I had woken up with got so bad, I had to go to A&E and since then I have been in and out of hospital with a suspected hip joint infection. I am usually pretty hardy with pain and can get by and ride it out, but this is like nothing I have ever experienced before.

I am now back at home with lots of painkillers. I still can't walk more than a few steps without crutches and they still aren't 100% sure what's the matter with me but I am very, very slowly improving. So although this Christmas has been a slightly funny one it has made me extra thankful for the incredible people I have in my life. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year ya'll!

Little Red Riding Kate

Recently I received a stunning top from Simply Be and I'm not sure why but every time I wear it, it reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood!

Top - Simply Be, Under Dress - Newlook Inspire, Tights - Evans, Boots - Evans.

Now normally, as ya'll know, I'm much more of a dress girl than I am a top girl. But when I saw this top on my gorgeous friend Becky from The Ramblings Of Mrs BeBe, I knew I had to have it! It's a gorgeous light, silky material that falls beautifully and the soft peplum edging is so cute. I sized up because I wanted it to look oversized and I'm glad I did as I think my 'regular' size would have been a little snug in the boob area! Tartan is huge right now and I love the tartan they've used on this top - it's an unusual mix of blues and reds and its just lovely!

As I don't own a single pair of trousers, I decided to whack a simple slip dress under the top and team it with tights and boots! This slip dress from Newlook Inspire, came with a cute little white short sleeved top under it, very 90's The Craft, which I also love - but it's great having the option to wear the slip with other things too!

I also love the dipped hem of this Sinply Be number! It lengths quite a lot at the back which adds a really great shape to the overall fall of the piece! The little sleeves are a perfect length too, to either wear under a coat or a cardigan as I get far too hot wearing long sleeves!

I would totally recommend this top to anyone looking for something chic and classic to add to their daily wardrobe rotation. I've worn it out and I've worn it to work so it's super versatile and super on trend!

Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under

Thanks to finally being off of work for the festive season, I have found the time to sit down and blog about the wonderful purchases I have made over the last few weeks. Possibly my favourite of these is the incredible pair of knee high boots I picked up at Evans in the sale!

Coat - Yours Clothing, Dress - Newlook Inspire, Leggings - Newlook Inspire, Boots - Evans.

I have lusted after knee high boots for so long but I never found quite the right pair, until I saw these in the Evans Christmas sale for just £30! I knew straight away that I had to have them! I'm wearing a size 8 EEE, which is extra wide. I don't normally buy wide fit shoes or boots but I can't deny the fact that they are unbelievably comfortable, both in the foot and calf regions. They are a little baggier at the ankle but compared to the rest of my legs, my ankles have always been weirdly sparrow-esque so this has nothing to do with the boots, it's simply the shape of my leg. The calf is perfectly fitted and tight enough that the boots stay up well but not too tight that they are uncomfortable or restricting.

I also love the half patent, half leather style of the boots. I adore patent but I think the plain leather back to the boots adds an extra pinch of class to them and makes them more wearable on a daily basis. The leather back panel also makes the boots a little stretchier around the calf for extra comfort. As I've said before, I am appalling in heals so the lovely little tiny heal on these is perfect - it makes me feel sassy but is also perfectly comfortable. These boots are available in a variety of width fittings, with EEE being the widest.

I am so pleased that I found these as they are perfect for the winter weather and are a great, classic style meaning they will be wearable for years to come!

Also, on a slightly different note, I just wanted to share with ya'll this absolutely incredible sketch of me a lady named Sam has done;

I could not love it anymore if I tried -it's so cute! I am going to get it printed and framed asap. Check her out on Instagram - samsillustration!

Goodnight, My Love

Now, I have to be honest with ya'll. As much as I absolutely adore clothes and fashion, there really is nothing I love more than coming home and getting in to my pyjamas. It genuinely is one of my favourite things and were it acceptable to live in pyjamas on a daily basis, I would totally roll with that haha. So when I saw a got these beauties from Simply Be - I knew I had to share them with you asap!

Pyjama set - Pretty Secrets at Simply Be.

These really is the cutest little pyjama set! It's a pack of two by Pretty Secrets. I love the simply patterns and the cute shorts as I don't know about you but when I'm actually in bed, I don't like to feel too restricted, so shorts are perfect for me! Now the sizing is quite small, I sized up two sizes because I wanted to make sure they were nice and comfy and slouchy, but as you can see they do fit more like my average size would, so I would definitely recommend being careful size wise. They are super comfortable and great value for money too as you get two pairs!

Now, this next number, when I first saw it it was as if the world went into slow motion and choirs of heavenly Angels began singing to me, it could not be more glorious!

Onesie - Pretty Secrets at Simply Be.

Anyone that knows me or follows my Instagram will know that i am without a doubt, a crazy dog lady. So when I saw this, I knew it had to be kind. It's made from Sherpa fleece, so not only is it super warm but it also feels as if your skin is being lovingly caressed every time you move. The sizing of this is great, I got it 2 sizes bigger and I would say it's pretty true to size. It's so cuddly, covered in Pugs/French Bulldogs and has a bone zip, so for real, what could be better?

How Kate Does Fashion Does Curvy Kate

So this is something completely different for me! I was contacted by the lovely ladies at Curvy Kate and they asked to review one of their gorgeous bras. Now this isn't unusual but, the fact they asked me to do a Vlog review of it was! I have never Vlogged in my life and I was so nervous about it incase I waffled or forgot what I was meant to be talking about haha but I have bitten the bullet and created my first ever Vlog in order to review the stunning Dream Catcher bra in Black (I'm wearing a 42F) from Curvy Kate! I am now without a doubt, a full Curvy Kate convert!

This bra really is the most fantastic bra I have ever owned! Not only is it comfortable and supportive but it also makes me feel totally sexy and fabulous! Check out my Vlog review here or on my YouTube Channel - Katylondonjames. I must apologise though the bra is only available up to a 44G not a 44H!

Thank you so much for baring with me through my first ever Vlog and I can safely say it won't be my last!

Cold Weather Cool

As ya'll know, one of my favourite winter staples is a faux fur coat. I cannot get enough of them! So when Claire, the wonderful lady from Bolton based plus size boutique Curv'i'licious offered to send me this coat, I could not have been happier!

Coat - Curv'i'licious, Shirt - Charity Shop, Skirt - Charity Shop, Crop Top - Primark, Shoes - Newlook Widefit.

I genuinely think that this might be the best quality faux fur coat I have ever owned. The coat itself is very heavy duty so would need to be kept for those particularly cold days, the fur is soft and stunning and the lining has been finished inpeccably. It also has a huge diva collar, which naturally I am fully into haha. I'm wearing a size 26 which fits wonderfully because as I've said before I prefer my coats to be a little more roomy to allow you to wear whatever you want underneath it, but you could easily purchase your normal size and it would fit wonderfully. I cannot recommend it highly enough to you! Aside from the amazing coat itself, the service I received from the ladies at Curv'i'licious was fantastic, the posting speed was great as was their level of communication!

After helping out at the SLiNK Magazine Tess Munster shoot last week I decided to embrace a little of the masculinity stylist Rivkie Baum used to shake up Tess' look whilst still keeping the outfit feminine. This shirt belongs to my man and it is a classic flannel, perfect for this weather and great to sling over any outfit to add a little edge. It's also bang on trend because tartan is huge right now and I adore this particular tartan colouring! My crop top is old Primark and although it's simple and plain, it has a cute lace design across the bust. My skirt was an amazing charity shop find and is absurdly comfortable!

I cannot tell you how long I have been searching for a pair of soft patent brogues! When I found these in Newlook I almost lost my mind. It's easy to find brogues but they are often a hard leather and a nightmare to break in! These bad boys are from the Widefit range at Newlook and genuinely feel as if I am wearing slippers! I don't wear Widefit shoes a lot but maybe I need to start doing so haha! I love that again, these take something from more masculine fashions but still look great and feminine!

At weekends I love nothing more than lazy makeup! A little bronzer, a tiny dusting of eyeshadow, eyebrows and some lipstick is more than enough for me where I can help it. I got this lipstick on eBay and the colour is 'Plum Whiskey', I see no obvious plum in this but I do love the colour. It was super cheap and as far as I can see isn't even branded haha so it's lasting power isn't great but for a quick fix its perfect!

This afternoon my wonderful man and I plan to drink Baileys, eat mince pies and put the Christmas decorations up! What date do you think is acceptable to reach for the tinsel haha?

Bon Anniversare

This week, my beautiful man and I celebrated out third anniversary! He is the cookie to my crumb, the moon to my stars and the jingle to my bells. To celebrate we went out for the most beautiful dinner at our favourite restaurant, Giuliano's on Barry Island and I decided that this was the perfect occasion to test run a heavenly dress Simply Be so kindly sent to me!

Dress - Simply Be, Leggings - Newlook Inspire, Shoes - Tesco, Necklace - Vintage

This dress is beautiful. Purely and simply beautiful. The neckline is possibly my favourite neckline out of every dress I own, its so flattering and different! The sculpted bust gives added support and structure and is the perfect contrast to the soft, floaty skirt. I sized up as I knew the bust would be tighter and this size fits me like a glove. The little sleeves are elasticated which is how they sit so perfectly off the shoulder without rising or digging into my arm chub - which is something I can experience problems with usually with sleeves this style, but not with this dress! I love the colour contrast of the bust and the skirt and this deep cranberry is a perfect festive party season tone! Usually I would wear this dress with tights but I am absolutely appalling when it comes to tights and managed to ladder every pair I had before I had even put them on so sadly I did have to wear leggings - but as it was a cold evening, this ended up being a good move! As ya'll know, I avoid wearing heels at all costs so I added this quirky pair of flats to add an additional edge to the outfit. I can't urge you enough to buy this dress if it has been teasing you with its beauty! It made me feel absolutely fabulous and could easily be dressed up a lot more for a more formal event!

My brother bought me this beautiful vintage necklace last Christmas and I love it! It is made from an old coin and with the neckline of this dress, it sits beautifully without being too OTT!

Coat - Yours Clothing

Naturally, as it was a freezing night I had to crack out this beautiful Yours clothing fur coat! Not only does it keep me warm but it really does add a little extra sauce to any outfit!

I decided to try something a little different with my makeup so I kept it very soft and simple. I added a little shimmery bronze and black eyeshadow to my lids (from an ELF palette I picked up for £5 with 100 different eyeshadow in it, which is surprisingly really lovely), a quick coat of mascara and a little simple glittery Revlon lipgloss. I love wearing lipstick on a night out but sometimes it is great to mix things up!

When I arrived home from work my man had bought me a bottle of my beverage of choice, Prosecco and put it in a ridiculous cup for me! At the restaurant I ate Italian Sausage with chickpea and chilli's, fillet of beef lasagne and an amaretto crème brulee and it was heavenly! We had a perfect evening.

Adventures In The Big Smoke

So this weekend, I packed up my things and headed off to London for one of the most exciting weekends of my life!

On Saturday I attended to British Plus Size Awards and as ya'll know I was nominated in the 'Best New Blog' category. Now, unfortunately, I didn't win, however, I did have a wonderful evening with my incredible girls and I got to dress up and feel ever so fancy!

Dress - Kiyonna at Curvety, Clutch - Dorothy Perkins, Shoes - Newlook, Necklace - Vintage.

This dress is beyond glorious, beyond incredible - it may just be the greatest dress I have ever owned. The quality is impeccable, the material falls beautifully and compliments every curve equally. The colour is utterly flawless and most importantly, it made me feel Oscar worthy! I received so many wonderful compliments throughout the night on my dress and this made me feel even better! Now I know I have said time and time again how much I dislike wrap dresses and the fact they are always peddled as something plus size women 'should' wear, but this dress is the exception to this. Yes, it is a wrap dress, but it isn't the standard wrap dress. There is a huge velvet tie that sits as a bow at your hip and the neckline is wider than your average wrap dress, exposing the perfect amount of skin. I am 5'8 and the length, with heels, was perfect. It was millimetres from the floor, which was perfect as it looked floor length but without the stress of it getting dirty and wet!

I struggled to find a clutch bag that I liked to go with the dress but eventually managed to pick up this absolute bargain in the Dorothy Perkins sale for £6!! It is a gorgeous, unusual holographic gold/bronze on the top section and the rest of the clutch is a soft black suede-effect. I am not the kind of person that could use clutch bags on a day to day basis as ultimately, I carry far too much crap around with me! But the size of this was great, just enough to fit everything you need for the evening in it, without being overpoweringly huge! I also teamed the look with a very simple vintage necklace with gentle pearl detailing. My darling friend Elena and I also nipped to Illamasqua in the centre of London to have our makeup done before the evening and I was so pleased! I've never had my makeup done professionally so I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be sure about it, but I loved it! The team were so much fun and so helpful  - I could totally get used to having someone else do my makeup on a daily basis haha!

I got to spend the time with my favourite girls too! The divine Elena Davies from Frivolous Mrs D & the heavenly Becky Barnes from The Ramblings Of Mrs BeBe (not pictured the wonderful Betty Pamper and the fabulous Rivkie Baum). These girls welcomed me into their fold without even a second thought and this was the first time I had seen them since first meeting them at Plus North. We laughed, cried, ate takeaway food at 2.30pm and all felt wonderful in our posh frocks! We also could all not have been more proud that Becky and Betty both picked up incredibly well deserved awards - Becky received Best Event for Plus North & Betty received Best Blog. I feel so humbled to call all of these beautiful, talented and driven women my friends!

Now, I can't lie, after I found out that I hadn't won my category, I was gutted so I snuck off to the loo for a little cry. After I composed myself and returned to my seat, this beautiful girl came and sat down next to me. This is Bethany Churcher, she is a singer and plus model. She told me that earlier in the evening she had been too nervous to come and speak to me as she is a huge fan of mine and of my blog and I am a huge inspiration to her. This absolutely blew my mind as I would never consider myself worthy of being someone's inspiration. So I went from feeling teary for a negative reason to feeling teary for an incredibly positive reason. Speaking to Bethany really did make my evening and 100% confirmed to me why I do what I do in regards to blogging and that, win or lose, the fact that I have made a difference to someone really means more to me than I could ever express.

Now as if that amazing evening hadn't been enough, on Sunday I was lucky enough to work as Stylist's Assistant on a SLiNK Magazine shoot! Not only was I working on a SLiNK Magazine shoot but it was a SLiNK Magazine shoot with Tess Munster. The entire day just blew my mind. I steamed clothes until I was a sweaty mess and ogled numerous gorgeous items of clothing and it was incredible.

Tess was wonderful. She was super lovely, super hilarious and totally filthy. She worked her butt off, was up for anything and looked utterly flawless. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I was lucky enough to find out I was working on this shoot, but Tess really did exceed all my expectations - for someone with such an incredible level of success in such a competitive and often cut throat industry, she is such a down to earth, humble and genuine nice woman.

All in all this really has been one of the most incredible weekends I've ever been lucky enough to experience. I am absolutely exhausted, but utterly elated and I would like to say the biggest thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all of you that voted for me and to everyone that has supported me since I started my blog 12 months ago. This weekend truly felt like a little step closer to my achieving my dreams.

Lots Of Love,
