So this weekend, I packed up my things and headed off to London for one of the most exciting weekends of my life!
On Saturday I attended to British Plus Size Awards and as ya'll know I was nominated in the 'Best New Blog' category. Now, unfortunately, I didn't win, however, I did have a wonderful evening with my incredible girls and I got to dress up and feel ever so fancy!
Dress - Kiyonna at Curvety, Clutch - Dorothy Perkins, Shoes - Newlook, Necklace - Vintage.
This dress is beyond glorious, beyond incredible - it may just be the greatest dress I have ever owned. The quality is impeccable, the material falls beautifully and compliments every curve equally. The colour is utterly flawless and most importantly, it made me feel Oscar worthy! I received so many wonderful compliments throughout the night on my dress and this made me feel even better! Now I know I have said time and time again how much I dislike wrap dresses and the fact they are always peddled as something plus size women 'should' wear, but this dress is the exception to this. Yes, it is a wrap dress, but it isn't the standard wrap dress. There is a huge velvet tie that sits as a bow at your hip and the neckline is wider than your average wrap dress, exposing the perfect amount of skin. I am 5'8 and the length, with heels, was perfect. It was millimetres from the floor, which was perfect as it looked floor length but without the stress of it getting dirty and wet!
I struggled to find a clutch bag that I liked to go with the dress but eventually managed to pick up this absolute bargain in the Dorothy Perkins sale for £6!! It is a gorgeous, unusual holographic gold/bronze on the top section and the rest of the clutch is a soft black suede-effect. I am not the kind of person that could use clutch bags on a day to day basis as ultimately, I carry far too much crap around with me! But the size of this was great, just enough to fit everything you need for the evening in it, without being overpoweringly huge! I also teamed the look with a very simple vintage necklace with gentle pearl detailing. My darling friend Elena and I also nipped to Illamasqua in the centre of London to have our makeup done before the evening and I was so pleased! I've never had my makeup done professionally so I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be sure about it, but I loved it! The team were so much fun and so helpful - I could totally get used to having someone else do my makeup on a daily basis haha!
I got to spend the time with my favourite girls too! The divine Elena Davies from Frivolous Mrs D & the heavenly Becky Barnes from The Ramblings Of Mrs BeBe (not pictured the wonderful Betty Pamper and the fabulous Rivkie Baum). These girls welcomed me into their fold without even a second thought and this was the first time I had seen them since first meeting them at Plus North. We laughed, cried, ate takeaway food at 2.30pm and all felt wonderful in our posh frocks! We also could all not have been more proud that Becky and Betty both picked up incredibly well deserved awards - Becky received Best Event for Plus North & Betty received Best Blog. I feel so humbled to call all of these beautiful, talented and driven women my friends!
Now, I can't lie, after I found out that I hadn't won my category, I was gutted so I snuck off to the loo for a little cry. After I composed myself and returned to my seat, this beautiful girl came and sat down next to me. This is Bethany Churcher, she is a singer and plus model. She told me that earlier in the evening she had been too nervous to come and speak to me as she is a huge fan of mine and of my blog and I am a huge inspiration to her. This absolutely blew my mind as I would never consider myself worthy of being someone's inspiration. So I went from feeling teary for a negative reason to feeling teary for an incredibly positive reason. Speaking to Bethany really did make my evening and 100% confirmed to me why I do what I do in regards to blogging and that, win or lose, the fact that I have made a difference to someone really means more to me than I could ever express.
Now as if that amazing evening hadn't been enough, on Sunday I was lucky enough to work as Stylist's Assistant on a SLiNK Magazine shoot! Not only was I working on a SLiNK Magazine shoot but it was a SLiNK Magazine shoot with Tess Munster. The entire day just blew my mind. I steamed clothes until I was a sweaty mess and ogled numerous gorgeous items of clothing and it was incredible.
Tess was wonderful. She was super lovely, super hilarious and totally filthy. She worked her butt off, was up for anything and looked utterly flawless. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I was lucky enough to find out I was working on this shoot, but Tess really did exceed all my expectations - for someone with such an incredible level of success in such a competitive and often cut throat industry, she is such a down to earth, humble and genuine nice woman.
All in all this really has been one of the most incredible weekends I've ever been lucky enough to experience. I am absolutely exhausted, but utterly elated and I would like to say the biggest thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all of you that voted for me and to everyone that has supported me since I started my blog 12 months ago. This weekend truly felt like a little step closer to my achieving my dreams.
Lots Of Love,
